SPRING BREAK for the grandkids with Grandma and Grandpa

This past week was 'spring break' from school. All of the grandkids decided they wanted to come to visit Grandma and Grandpa during part of their week. We were able to have two or three of the kids here at a time, each getting to sleep at Grandma and Grandpa's for two nights. We had lots of fun playing games, going bowling, visiting the Bruneau Sand Dunes, and geocaching. Wendy was here when her kids were here and got some pointers from Don on planting a garden. It is getting that time of year, to plant. Don planted the peas this weekend and has some pots of veggies sprouting in the house, to give them a head start. A highlight of the week for all the kids was getting to type on our old typewriter. They thought it was pretty cool to type on the 'old fashioned' keyboard. Melissa wants me to give it to her when we die!

Crater Rings of Idaho

Can you believe there's this big hole in the desert just a couple of miles away from Mountain Home? We took a little drive with Brent and Allison yesterday afternoon and found two big holes (crater rings) in the ground. We'd been there previously, but Brent and Allison hadn't. There were a couple of geocaches there also, so that was our incentive to take Brent out there. Our first trip was in our little Ford Ranger pickup. This trip in the 4WD Silverado was much easier ane much mroe comfortble.

Another birthday celebration

We celebrated the birthdays of two more of the grandkids on Saturday. Tiffany and Spencer both turned 8 and were both baptized on the 28th. What a special day for both of them and for our whole family. We just need to get Heidi to move closer to Boise so we can ALL be together.

Spencer's Baptism

Spencer just got baptized and is a new member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This was a special day for us.

Legacy Park water wheel

We woke up Saturday morning to find that a new geocache had been placed only about 1/2 mile from our home. The coordinates took us to this nice spot at Legacy Park. Then the search began. Now where would YOU place a geocache here? We finally found it - only 2" long and 1/2 " in diameter. This will look a lot different when the grass gets green & there's water in the pond.

Bruneau Sand Dunes

While driving around looking for geocaches today we found this nice view of the Bruneau Sand Dunes. They are the largest dunes in North America, I believe. They are 470 feet high. The teeny tiny dunes on the right are the ones we usually climb and play on. When you're near them the little ones look huge. Imagine how big the BIG ones really are and the effort it would take to climb them!

We finally found the right day for a hike at the Bruneau Sand Dunes (not too hot, not too cold, no wind, enough time, etc.). We only had to walk about 1/3 of a mile to get to the cache, but walking in sand makes it a little harder. This is the first time we've walked around the area. Usually we just play on the sand dunes with the kids or grandkids.
